CareerBuilder and EMSI study shows women earn nearly $24,000 less than men on average. (2013, Apr 25). PR Newswire Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/1345408183?accountid=28644
This article explains and gives examples of how there is still a gap in the wages of me and women. It shows that mostly men are in the CEO positions of companies and also gives a list of the pay women receive compared to the pay men receive. Women only dominate in 4 positions of the top 15. Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon, Orthodontist, Prosthodontist and Pharmacist were the four that women got paid more than men. I found this source very reliable as they gave number to prove their findings.
Donkin, R. (1998, Jun 03). The low pay syndrome: Women might be to blame for the fact that they are paid less than men. Financial Times Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/248618226?accountid=28644
This article does an experiment to see how 132 Yale University students with 68 being men and 64 being women to see what they would ask for pay when writing an essay for computer shopping. Women paid themselves 18 percent less than men. So this article thinks that women might be somewhat to blame for lower pay. They feel it’s because women compare their pay with other women, they use their own low pay as a standard, women and men have different values, they think their contribution is not as good as men due to stereotyping and judgements. I feel his article is very vague and really shouldn’t be used as a standard why women are paid less. I feel it’s the author’s opinion.
Roberts, S. (2001, Mar 13). Women still work longer than men for less income: Improved since 1986: 'we've come some way, but we still have a way to go'. National Post Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/329774117?accountid=28644
In this article in a 1997 survey states that men and women work the same amount of paid time but women work 35 more days of unpaid work which is doing household chores on top of their work they do at their place of employment. Women’s work is only about two-thirds of men’s work when it comes to pay. It showed that the gender gap had decreased since the mid 80’s but women still have a taxed income only 63 percent of men. Even though we have come a way we still do need to work at getting closer to the pay men are getting. I feel this article is very informative and gives a lot of numbers where men and women compare to pay and how far we have come.
Leith, L. H. (2014). Why do women still earn less than men? Monthly Labor Review, 2-1G, 2G. Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/1547312861?accountid=28644
In this article it states that women earn less for one simple reason and that is because they are women. In the past men tended to be more educated, trained or had more work experience than women. But now times are changing and more than half of the medical students are women. Women still have problems with bargaining for higher pay then men do. This article has a lot of good facts and gives good examples to why women earn less. It shows how over time women have gotten more active in the work for and have made large strides.
Forman, J. (2002, Jun 10). Report outlines gender gap in retirement money. Journal Record Retrieved from http://search.proquest.com/docview/259453973?accountid=28644
In this article is explains where women stand when it comes to retirement compared to men. It states that women fare poorly when it comes to retirement. Women age 65 and older make roughly half of what men at that age make. Not many women have pensions compared to men at that age and women are twice as likely at age 65 to be poor compared to me. This is an interesting article. It shows that current times have changed a lot since they are talking about women 65 and older compared to men 65 and older. They say that women live longer so they should be saving more money for retirement.
Dias, L. (2011). Human Resource Management. Saylor.org/books. Chapter 3. Diversity and Multiculturalism
In this chapter it explains that diversity is the difference between people. It focuses on the “otherness” of differences. Through policies is how people that fall into these categories are protected. You could have an individual privilege known as an invisible privilege and not even know it. An example would be that a man has a privilege that a women will automatically change her last name once they get married. In this chapter it explains all the rules and regulations that take place in the work environment to keep everything as fare as possible. This chapter is very informative.
